Stay away from this dangerous person. The General Manager, a S Korean male, Jason Jae Lee, will intentionally destroy an employee’s career.
Pros: Free shirt, cap, apron, name tag
Cons: abuse, bullying, insult, discrimination, retaliation, unfair treatment, no equal opportunity
I interviewed with the then-Area Manager and two other assistants last September. On the same day, I made it clear to them that I wanted to work full-time and wanted to be trained for a future management position.
I had worked in this store for three weeks before The General Manager, Jae Lee came. He was transferred from other store (restaurant) to the Stone Mountain location STORE (1121)-MEMORIAL & HAIRSTON, Stone Mountain, GEORGIA where I worked.
The first week that he came, he ordered me to clean the whole lobby with a machine by myself (although I had not been trained), also required me to take before and after pictures and then send to him and to explain what cleaning solutions I used. I also had to put the merchandise from the delivery truck in its appropriate place on Wednesday.
He often called out my name 20 or 30 times throughout the day, assigned work to me, and even yelled at me and told me that I did not need to eat free employee meals, (while other employees were talking or idle). Often there was not one minute’s rest time all day. He told me, if you don’t like me, don’t work my store. He really bullies new employees as much he can. Abuse of employees is a violation of the labor law.
He asked me several times who live with you, and later he asked a female employee to ask me if I was married. After I gave no respond to the inquiry, my working hours were cut drastically, to about only 20 hours a week. At that time, in order to maintain the benefits of full-time employees, I had to be on call every day. The reason was that I had to replace other employees when they did not want to work or could not work.
When I asked the GM to distribute work equally, he told me that many employees here were born after year 2000, and he ordered me to do their unfinished work again. One employee even served guests while chewing gum, having cell phones in the back pockets, taking off hat and arranging hair in front of the steam table, some employees even failed the OSA, guest service basics, yet the GM did not train them or temporarily disallow them to work. Front of house (FOH) employees would gather at back of house (BOH) employees to watch videos on their cell phones and even play at BOH sometimes during night shift. However lobby and restrooms were not cleaned up, the garbage was not dumped and was left overnight at store (This attracted roaches), FOH floor drains were not cleaned. Even if they asked for more working hours, the GM usually gave them, and finally helped them to find a reason for not being able to come to work, and they still got more hours from him, Drive Through employees could eat, drink and use cell phone while hiding in the corner. Although employees never did cleaning jobs, they still got more bonuses and work hours than other hard working employees. Some received preferred treatment using intercom to talk and flirt with the GM.
Finally, a customer informed us that there were rats next to the large trash can outside, also the cockroaches crawled on the steam table, but GM ignored them until the customer returned the bag and food containing the cockroaches to get a refund of the money. After ECO Lab was disinfected two weeks later the store still had live cockroaches that appeared next to the steam table. Once a customer found a hair in the food and complained to one of employee who was working there. The GM did not pay much attention to food safety at all.
Most employees can get enough working hours and do what they want, the GM only told me, “You cannot get what you want”. I WAS ONLY EMPLOYEE WHO WAS NEVER SHORT ON THE REGISTER MONEY, WAS ON 24-HOUR ON CALL, AND NEVER LATE, AND I ACTIVELY STOVE FOR JOB OPPORTUNITIES.
When I discussed my working hours concerns with the GM, he yelled back and said, “You are rich, you do not need more hours. Others employees need more hours to keep the insurance”. At that time, I asked him to teach me to made fried rice and noodles, but he also shouted back, beat the table and roared, “You always thinking about your benefits". In order to learn how to prepare fried rice and fried noodles, I had to wash pans four times that at BOH. I got him to teach me how to cook fried rice, noodles and how to made teriyaki and some of the BOH work. Once the GM helped one female employee to sell her homemade country food to me, I refused to purchase because that she did not have a Food Handler Certification and receipt. Finally, the GM cut my working to 5 hours a week. I lost all benefits and twice I received biweekly paychecks that were under $200. In the end, because of the malicious, drastic reduction of working hours, reluctantly resigned (because of the oppressive conditions).
After the GM forced me to leave, he posted ads on the local Chinese websites to hire Full- Time manager.

The GM knows Chinese people are hard working and never complain about any jobs they do. However, people of Chinese origin will NOT accept abuse, bullying, insult, discrimination or unfair treatment.
The GM even said he has good relations with Upper management. (Shame on Eddie Lee Regional Director of Operations), your selected the GM failed Panda by not fulfilling its Mission and Values, disregarding Panda values, and ethics. The GM trampled the dignity of workers, deprived employees of their rights, arbitrarily cut the working hours of employees, and finally forced employee to leave jobs. But the GM still works here, abuses his power, and squeezes employees in exchange for his great bonuses only.
